Senora Penagos
has been a Spanish teacher in the United States for close to 10 years.
Senora Penagos
teaches Spanish on both campuses and also art on Sacred Heart Campus.
The
Spanish program that Senora teaches is designed to introduce students to the
language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Students will
demonstrate course-appropriate outcomes in the four basic language skills of
speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. This is accomplished
by daily routines where students build their vocabulary, review grammar, gain
confidence through structured and unstructured conversations, readings and
activities.
Each grade program focuses in
specific age-appropriate objectives and goals to learn the Spanish language.
The program for young children integrates flash cards, puppets, audio CDs
with conversations, and songs. The puppets encourage children to speak the
language and act out the behaviors. The program for older children integrates
Smart Board use, audio CD’s with conversations, contemporary songs and
activities which students easily identify.
Students in Spanish meet twice a
week grades K-3rd. Three times a week grades 4th and 5th and four times a week grades 6th through 8th.
The art program for grades K through 3rd is one forty-five minute period per week. Senora designs activities appropriate
for young children that integrate the fine arts, art elements, and fosters
self-esteem. Throughout each project, students will be introduced to concepts
of color, shape, lines, prints, patterns, sequencing and sculpture.
